Detention Officer:

Pay Range: $11.10 - $12.10

Responsibilities: 

Guard inmates in accordance with established regulations and procedures. May guard prisoners in transit between jail, courtroom, prison, or other point. Includes deputy sheriffs and police who spend the majority of their time guarding prisoners in correctional institutions.

Transportation Officer:

Pay Range: $11.10-$12.10

Responsibilities:
 
The Transportation Officer will transport inmates to and from the Vernon County Jail and other detention facilities, oversee and conduct video arraignment court with courts from multiple jurisdictions, perform booking procedures of inmates. The Transportation Officer is responsible for safety and security of inmates and the public during transportation between facilities. 
 
 Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Possess a valid operator's license at time of application and a valid Missouri operator's license at time of appointment. Must have a clean driving record
  • Type a minimum of 35 wpm.
  • Visual acuity of at least 20/200 correctable to 20/20 in both eyes.
  • Pass a medical examination and a pre-employment drug screen prior to appointment.
  • Applicants must be able to meet the strenuous physical demands of Transportation Officers and Detention Officers activities which include, at a minimum, ability to engage in physical incidents using approved restraint techniques and devices and to operate law enforcement equipment, including firearms.
  • No felony convictions.
  • Have not plead guilty to or have any other criminal convictions in the past 2 years, excluding traffic violations.
  • Uniformed personnel whose tattoos extend below a short-sleeve uniform shirt, must wear the long-sleeve uniform shirt. Flesh-tone wraps, sleeves, band-aids, chemical covers and products such as Hide-Ink are prohibited as an alternative to coverage by clothing or uniform. The VCSO may make exceptions to this policy if tattoos are not considered offensive or inappropriate.  
  • Applicant must meet minimum background qualifications set forth by the FBI and MSHP CJIS Security policy.

Patrol Deputy

Responsibilities:

Maintain law and order and serve legal process of the courts by performing duties, including but not limited to; processing citizen complaints, documenting and writing reports on law violations, transporting prisoners, service of civil process, and overall general law enforcement in the County.

Job Type: Full-time Evenings, Nights, Weekends

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Possess a valid operator's license at time of application and a valid Missouri operator's license at time of appointment.
  • Type a minimum of 35 wpm.
  • Visual acuity of at least 20/200 correctable to 20/20 in both eyes.
  • Pass a medical examination and a per-employment drug screen prior to appointment.
  • Must possess a valid class A or B Missouri Peace Officer License.
  • Applicants must be able to meet the strenuous physical demands of law enforcement activities which include, at a minimum, ability to engage in foot pursuits, to make forcible arrest, and to operate law enforcement equipment, including firearms.
  • Must reside in Vernon County (by the end of field training) unless an exception is made.
  • No felony convictions.
  • Have not plead guilty to or have any other criminal convictions in the past 2 years, excluding traffic violations.
  • Uniformed personnel whose tattoos extend below a short-sleeve uniform shirt, must wear the long-sleeve uniform shirt. Starting Hourly Pay Rate: $15.20/hour
