Special Response Team takes fugitive into custody during search warrant

05/03/2019

The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office Special Response team arrested a wanted subject early Friday morning who had been placed on the Vernon County’s Most Wanted list last month. According to Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher, Michael Allen Porter, 43, of Nevada was arrested during the execution of a search warrant at a home on Panama road west of Deerfield. Mosher said Porter attempted to escape through a window in the back of the house but ran back into the home when he saw deputies waiting in the back yard. Because children were suspected to be in the home, deputies did not follow but tried calling him out instead. “We didn’t want to go bursting into the home if we didn’t have too. After we called out on a speaker that the home was surrounded, he surrendered without incident” said Mosher.

Porter was wanted in Vernon County for Felony Domestic Assault, the City of Nevada for Failure to Appear, and Bates County for probation violation on an original charge of Felony Resisting Arrest and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Porter is being held in the Vernon County Jail with bonds totaling $8,145.52
